Congress cadre staged a demonstration in the city on Tuesday to protest against the Land Acquisition Bill of the Central Government.

G. Jayaprakash, president of the Salem urban district unit of the Congress, led the agitation in front of the Collectorate.

Farmers

G. Sundaravadivelu, general secretary of the State Congress Committee, and others who spoke, said that different Congress regimes always supported the farmers and their cause.

However, the BJP-led regime at the Centre is an anti-farmer one, they alleged, and added that land acquisition will immensely harm the interest of the entire farming community.

The Congress unit presidents Gopal (Salem West) and Selvaraj (Salem East) also participated in the agitation that was organised to highlight the issue.
