: Debabrata Sarkar, an official of the East Bengal Club, who was arrested by the CBI last year, has been granted bail by the Alipore District Court here on Tuesday.

He was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. 1 lakh.

Mr Sarkar was arrested by the CBI in August 2014 in connection to the multi-crore Saradha scam. Earlier, two other accused in the Saradha case, former Director General of Police (DGP) Rajat Majumdar and former TMC MP Srinjoy Basu were granted bail.

Mr. Sarkar whose name had figured in the charge-sheets submitted filed by the CBI in connection with the scam was accused of criminal conspiracy and cheating. He would be released on Wednesday.

He was considered to be close to Saradha Group owner Sudipta Sen who had reportedly told CBI officials to ensure that his Ponzi business would continue without any interference from regulatory bodies like the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
