Paramount is launching development of classroom comedy “Substitute Teacher,” based on a series of sketches from “Key and Peele” stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.

Key will reprise his role as the angry high school substitute teacher Mr. Garvey while Peele will play a rival teacher currying the favor of students. Key and Peele will produce with 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Levine and Principato Young Entertainment’s Peter Principato, Paul Young and Joel Zadak.

Rich Talarico and Alex Rubens, co-producers of Comedy Central’s “Key and Peele,” will write the script.

The duo set up “Keanu,” a movie about a stolen cat, at New Line in October. The story follows a group of friends posing as drug dealers in order to retrieve a stolen feline.

Key and Peele met as castmembers on “MadTV.”

Peele is repped by Principato-Young and Jared Levine of Morris Yorn. Key is repped by UTA, Principato-Young and attorney Dave Feldman.
