Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed threw a scoreless inning on Tuesday morning in a 'B' game against the Chicago Cubs at Sloan Park, an encouraging first step in his first action of the spring.

Reed, who was delayed in camp due to shoulder tightness, hit the first batter he faced but retired the next three, finishing his outing with a strikeout on a slider.

"I felt normal," Reed said. "Everything felt good. Other than the first slider I threw that hit the guy's foot, I thought everything went well."

Reed threw 13 pitches, his fastball sitting in the 88-89 mph range and touching 90.

"To start right there, I think that's a good starting point," he said of his velocity. "Get four or five more outings and hopefully it increases a little bit every time."

Reed expects to be ready for Opening Day, which is April 6 vs. the San Francisco Giants.
