Cubs pitcher misses start after getting stuck in traffic

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Edwin Jackson (36) pitches during a spring training workout at Sloan Park.

The Cubs took on the Athletics in a Tuesday Cactus League game at Hohokam Stadium, but the Cubs had to make a last-minute lineup adjustment.

Pitcher Edwin Jackson was late for his scheduled start because he apparently got stuck in traffic.

The Cubs play at Sloan Park in Mesa, and the Athletics play just 3.6 miles away at Hohokam Stadium -- also in Mesa.

Now, we don't know where Jackson calls home during spring training or where he was driving from, but most players stay relatively close to the team's facility. I doubt he was driving from the West Valley on the day of his scheduled start, but who knows?

The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser tweeted out the pitching change at 1 p.m. Arizona time, and For The Win checked the Google maps traffic report within minutes of the tweet.

Not much traffic from Sloan Park to Hohokam Stadium.

The estimated nine-minute drive didn't seem too threatening to Jackson's work schedule, but who are we to call Jackson a liar?

Jackson did arrive to the stadium in time to pitch the second inning.

Gotta love spring training.

Update: Jackson went on to give up seven runs in 1 2/3 innings. It wasn't his best day.
