Akola doc proposes new concept in fibroid removal
AKOLA: The simple concept of using saline for fibroid dissection has made the procedure of removing fibroids very easy, claims gynecologist and endoscopic surgeon Dr Rajesh Modi. He claims that he introduced this concept at the recently held national conference at Chennai, where it was received with great enthusiasm.
A large number of woman suffer from fibroids in the uterus, which cause pain, excessive bleeding and difficulty in conceiving.
Surgery is the only option to get rid of such fibroids and laparoscopic surgery makes fibroid removal easy for women, particularly for those who cannot conceive due to fibroids but may still be capable of giving birth to a child, Modi asserted.
Citing an example, Modi said a woman had been married since 2005 but could not conceive due to fibroids. Using the new technique, fibroids were removed from the uterus in April 2006 and the lady delivered twins, one son and one daughter, in February 2008. Modi asserted that the new technique gives greater comfort to the patient as well as to the surgeon. This technique is now being used at various places in the country, Modi claimed.
