PATNA: Police have failed to arrest suspended principal of DAV Public School, BSEB Colony, Ramanuj Prasad, and the two youths who had allegedly gang-raped a +2 student during her 20 days in captivity. The DAV College Managing Committee (DAVCMC) suspended Ramanuj after detecting irregularities committed by him as the school principal.
The Students-Parents Sangharsh Samiti on Tuesday protested outside the school premises, demanding state government’s intervention in the ongoing alleged irregularities in DAV, BSEB Colony.
The association demanded a fair probe into the case. Its president Niraj Singh said, “We will continue our protest till the girl gets justice and Ramanuj is arrested.”
The CBSE’s Patna regional officer Rashmi Tripathi told TOI a detailed report on the school had been sent to the CBSE headquarters at New Delhi for further action.
In fact, police did not arrest even the school computer teacher, Ajit Kumar Verma, whose name figured in the confessional statement made to the police by the three arrested teachers Sanatan Maharana, Gaurang Dey and Pradeep Bharti. According to Maharana, “Pradhanadhyapak (vartaman) nirdeshanusar main, Gaurang Dey, Pradeep Bharti, Ajeet Kumar Verma, computer teacher aur anya log chhatron ko fail karakar dhokhe me rakh kar adhik paisa lekar punah pariksha mein sammilit karane ke dhadhe mein sammilit hain (on current principal’s direction, I…and others used to deliberately fail students and indulged in getting them appear at exams on payment of extra money).”
But, the police neither added Verma’s name in the FIR nor arrested him. SSP Patna Jitender Rana said Ramanuj was not on the run. “We will arrest him after collecting all the evidence,” he said. When pointed out about the DAVCMC action against him on the basis of evidence, the SSP said, “They conducted their independent investigation, we will do our own.”
The accused teachers’ defence lawyer, Pratyush Prasanna told TOI, “We have moved bail application for the three arrested teachers in a lower court on Tuesday.” Some other criminal lawyers said Verma approached them for his anticipatory bail.

On Patna police failure to make any breakthrough in the rape case of the girl student, Rana said, “There are some missing links in her statement to the police. Since the accused are unnamed, it’s taking longer time to track them. Her medical report is also awaited.”
Sources said the girl was taken to the CBSE office by the police but the official whom she met on February 28 was not on duty on Tuesday. She was taken to Brahma Sthan and towards Rupaspur. Later, she was taken to the police station to help make the sketches of the two accused. She started feeling sick after the daylong investigation.
