Kerry Washington, ‘Transparent’ among GLAAD Media Award winners

Winners at Saturday night’s GLAAD Media Awards included actress Kerry Washington of “Scandal,” director Roland Emmerich (“The Day After Tomorrow” and “Independence Day” are among his fllms), the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring movie “The Imitation Game” and television shows “Transparent” and “How To Get Away With Murder.” The awards are given for accurate portrayals of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Ellen DeGeneres presented Washington’s award, saying the actress “has consistently taken on characters that encourage acceptance of the people around us even if they’re different and especially if they’re underrepresented.” [Los Angeles Times]
