Fire damages pine forest in Abra

(Updated 8:12 a.m., March 25) A fire has damaged a wide tract of pine forest in Danglas town in Abra province.

Laborers working on a part of the Abra-Ilocos Norte Road saw the fire, GMA Ilocos reported Tuesday.

"Nagtatrabaho kami, nakita na lang namin na nasusunog," said Leonardo Tauro.

Provincial environment officer Engineer Ernesto Aton cited initial information indicating the fire may have affected 200 hectares.

Local environment officials are still determining the extent of damage the fire has caused.
