New 7 line subway might not be ready until summer

The MTA is not expecting the new 7 line subway station to open this spring, officials said Monday.

The authority said the $2.4 billion stop on 34th Street and 11th Avenue is likely to open this summer, since workers are still testing its fire-alarm and communication systems.

Former Mayor Bloomberg took a victory lap on the 7 as early as Dec. 2013, when the extension had been scheduled to open last summer.

Workers then faced problems installing incline elevators at the new station, which caused delays.

When the 7 finally reaches the Far West Side, it will be the first city-funded extension of the subway system in sixty years.
