TOKYO -- Haier Asia, a Tokyo-based unit under Chinese consumer appliance giant Haier Group, unveiled a sprawling new research and development center in Japan last week.
Haier Asia President and CEO Yoshiaki Ito and the company's facility for testing refrigerators The center is located just north of Tokyo in the city of Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, and was built at a cost of 7 billion yen ($57.8 million). With a floor space of roughly 12,000 sq. meters, it is the group's largest R&D center outside of China.
