Denmark is considered one of the major “suppliers” of fighters to the Middle East.

The number of Danes joining the Islamic State or Kurdish and Shia Muslim oppositional groups in Syria and Iraq decreased by nearly two times, numbering only 37 in 2014 in comparison with 66 people in 2013, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service reported.

The data showed the majority of the fighters found the Islamic State's radical ideology more attractive.

Denmark ranks second among the EU countries in terms of the number of fighters heading to the Middle East. According to the official data, 115 people have gone to the war-torn region over the last five years.
