AMRITSAR: Following militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba and Kathua districts, security has been enhanced in Pathankot and Chamba districts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, respectively, bordering J&K.
Though Pathankot shares only 20km border stretch with Kathua, Chamba shares 215 km boundary with three districts of J&K, including some treacherous passes from where militants had struck in the past.

Pathankot senior superintendent of police Rakesh Kaushal informed TOI on Monday that there were more than 120 security personnel guarding Ranjit Sagar Dam round the clock. "Three police stations, including Narot Jaimal Singh, Dhar and Sujanpur, that are close to the J&K border have been put on high alert," he added.
Sources, on condition of anonymity, said if militants could storm the Rajbagh police station in Kathua district, they could also make an attempt to enter Punjab.
Kaushal said CCTVs have been installed at Madhopur barrier along the J&K border to keep an eye on the movement of people while Chamba superintendent of police D K Chaudhary said they had three companies of security personnel to man the 215-km border with J&K.
According to sources, there are several hydropower projects in Chamba like Chamera project and religious places like Shaktipeeth-Bahali Mata Temple, which is frequented by hundreds of pilgrims especially during the ongoing Navratras. "All these places are close to the Jammu border and could be on target list of militants," they added.
Chaudhary stated that they had deployed sufficient security at the temple besides vital installations had their own securities also.
