Electricity Supply & Demand Report for February 2015 1. Electricity demand (See Table 1)

Our electric power sold in February totaled 7,055 GWh, which was 95.5% year-on-year. Despite a continuous post-quake reconstruction, the sales were below the results of the previous year for the first time in three months due to a shorter period of meter reading and a decreased heating demand caused by a higher temperature.
Sales by customer segment were as follows:
- Non-Specified Scale Demand (Excluding deregulated segment)
Despite a post-quake reconstruction continued, power demand in the lightning (residential) sector was
91.7% year-on-year due to a shorter period of meter reading and a decreased heating demand caused by a higher temperature. It fell below the results of the previous year for the first time in three months.
Non-specified scale demand in total was 91.4% year-on-year.
- Specified Scale Demand (Deregulated segment)
Our electric power sold for commercial use was 97.9% year-on-year. Even with a continuing recovery trend in demand, a decreased heating demand due to a higher temperature and other factors lowered the demand for commercial use from that of the previous year for the first time in three months. Overall power demand in the specified-scale sectors totaled 98.6% year-on-year.
In the industrial and other sectors, power demand mostly came from large-scale industrial customers, as described in the reference below.
[Reference]
- Large-scale industrial demand
Even with a post-quake reconstruction and a continuous recovery of production in some sectors, a decrease in production in some companies decreased our large-scale industrial demand in total. As a result, our large-scale industrial demand was 99.4% year-on-year.

2. Electricity supply (See Table 2)

Our electricity generated and purchased in February totaled 7,414 GWh, 96.0% year-on-year, which fell below that of the previous year for two consecutive months.
(Power generated by our own hydro power stations)
Even though the water flow rate was 100.6%, 1.8% lower than that of previous year, owing to the resumption of hydro power stations which had been damaged by the torrential rains in Niigata and Fukushima, our hydro power generation output totaled 498 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 61 GWh.
(Power generated by our own thermal power stations)
Differences of thermal power stations' operations and other factors decreased our own thermal power generated output to 5,408 GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 472 GWh.
(Power generated by our own nuclear power stations)
All units of Onagawa nuclear power station and unit 1 of Higashidori nuclear power station have been shut down because of regular inspections. Therefore, there was no output from nuclear power stations.
(Power generated by our own renewable power stations)
Since the amount of vapor in geothermal power stations increased, our renewable generated output totaled 78 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 6 GWh.
(Power purchased)
Differences of thermal power stations' operation of other companies and other factors increased our power purchased from others to 2,035 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 95 GWh.
