Statistics are not telling full maternity story

THE annual report on perinatal statistics provides a sharp lesson on how limited information can be on what is really going on in the country's maternity units.

The 2013 perinatal statistics report was published yesterday on the day the row between the HSE and the patient safety watchdog HIQA emerged over its draft findings arising out of its investigation into Portlaoise Hospital.
