SPO arrested, terminated for stone pelting

SRINAGAR, Mar 23: A Special Police Officer (SPO) was today arrested and terminated from the service for his involvement in stone pelting and arson of Police Post Aawoora in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Police arrested the SPO Faisal Lone son of Rashid Lone (SPO No 591) resident of Gulgam Kupwara and he was produced before the court that granted him 15 days judicial remand. He was shifted to Kupwara District Jail.
Mob last month tried to set ablaze Police Post Aawoora in Trehgam in the frontier district of Kupwara and pelted stone on the police after an accused murderer died in police custody. The SHO Trehgam and six police personnel were injured in the mob attack and Fire and Emergency Services’ timely intervention saved the Police Post from burning.
Police registered a case (FIR 8/2015 Section 307, 336, 141, 427 RPC) in Police Station Trehgam and started investigations into the attack on the Police Post by the mob. After having look at the video footage of the attack on Police Post and investigations into the case, it was found that the SPO was leading the attack on the Police Post. He was posted at District Police Lines Kupwara.
Sources said that during the investigations it was also found that the SPO was involved in supply of synthetic drugs in the area. He was formally arrested after the preliminary investigations and terminated from the service after his arrest.
However, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Garib Dass said that the SPO will be formally terminated tomorrow.
Hundreds of police and paramilitary Central Police Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personal were deployed in and around township to enforce curfew-like restrictions.
A case under FIR number 41/2015 under Sections 223 and 224 has been registered against in charge Police Post, Aawoora, Sub-Inspector Ghulam Muhammad and three other policemen Munshi Muhammad Hussain, Selection Grade Constable Fayaz Ahmad and Constable Fayaz Ahmad..
Three cops were later arrested by police for dereliction in duty that led to the fleeing of the murder accused from the police and later his death
