The Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation (ACCIF) will observe Earth Hour from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on March 28 along with Coca-Cola at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here to spread awareness about the need for energy conservation and ways to mitigate the devastating impact of global warming.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, ACCIF president-elect M. Murali Krishna said the Chamber had been promoting the event for the last five years as part of its efforts to motivate people to make judicious use of natural resources to combat global warming.

“People should look beyond Earth Hour, as it is only through the involvement of the entire global population the planet can be protected from environmental hazards,” Mr. Krishna said.

He added that switching off non-essential lights during Earth Hour would go a long way in conserving thermal energy.

ACCIF executive director P. Bhaskar Rao said members of the Chamber across the State had been requested to ‘celebrate’ the event and added that it was not a blackout. “It is a voluntary action to show commitment to an act of change that benefits the planet,” he said.

ACCIF director T. Parthasaradhi and other Chamber representatives were present. Later, they released a poster on Earth Hour.
