Anniversary fete of ashram branch

: The first anniversary of the Kottarakara branch of Shantigiri Ashram was celebrated at the ashram complex on Monday. A function got up in this connection was inaugurated by the former Minister R. Balakrishna Pillai. Swami Gururatnam Njana Tapaswi, organising secretary of the ashramam, presided..

Delivering the keynote address, Kodikunnil Suresh, Mavelikara MP, said the sacrifices made by the Ashram founder, Karunaka Guru, were instrumental in the achievements of the Shantigiri Ashram. He said Karunakara Guru was a person who charmed even his critics through love and affection.

Mr.. Suresh said the ashram had played a big role in promoting and popularising the traditional systems of medicine, Siddha and Ayurveda.

The two systems were closely linked to nature. The Kottarakara branch of the ashram had always stood for serving the people, he added.

At the function, district panchayat president S. Jayamohan was honoured for taking the lead in implementing unique projects that enabled the Kollam district panchayat to win this year’s best district panchayat of the State award. Arsha Remanan of Kottarakara who won the second rank in the Kerala University M.A. Philosophy examination this year was also honoured.

Special prayers were held after the meeting to mark the anniversary celebrations.
