Effective communication skills, computer literacy, soft skills and positive attitude were potent tools for young graduates to face competition at global level, said M. Rajyakodi, Chairman, Education Development Council, Madurai Kamaraj University.

Delivering the Graduation Day address at MVM Arts College for Women here on Monday, he said that degrees without computer literacy had no value at all.

The State and Central governments had started conducting competitive examinations through online mode. Computer literacy was need of the hour, he added.

With introduction of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, and a strange employment system of hire and fire, the maladies could be felt across the world. Students should upgrade their skills to handle any tough situation.

Instead of searching for jobs, the young graduates should strive to become job providers, he said.

Concern

Expressing grave concern over change in the mindset of the young generation, he said that humaneness was vanishing. Youngsters should develop helping tendency and work for the uplift of poor and the downtrodden besides working for a successful career, he added.

Quoting Tirukkural, he advised that lifelong learning and updating knowledge were vital for young graduates to stay at the top in their career. “ If you stop learning, you will lag behind others in the challenging world,” he said.

Later, he gave away degree certificates to students.
