Video: ‘Sankarea — Uncut’ FUNimation trailer

FUNimation is re-releasing the English language dub to the romantic horror series Sankarea, which it released back in 2013. It plans on re-releasing Sankarea, uncut and uncensored, in a matter of days on March 31st.

It recalled the home video release in that same year when the rating was changed from TV-14 to TV-MA.

You can check out the “coming soon” trailer on YouTube for Sankarea: Uncut. If you have watched the series already, then you should already know what to fully expect with Sankarea. This is not the type of series that you want to check out if you are queasy about blood or uneasy with anything pertaining to zombies.

If you all under neither category, look forward to the complete series on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Sankarea is a series that you may want to watch if you have watched and enjoyed Warm Bodies and/or Z-Nation.

The story centers on the unique relationship between Furuya and the titular Rea, the catalyst of the story, as they overcome their “barriers” for love. Furuya is your run-of-the-mill weirdo, who is into the occult with specific focus on zombies.

He tries to pull a Frankenweenie by trying to resurrect his dead cat with a potion.

Furuya’s potion is taken by Rea, who wants to escape her domineering father, and pulls a Juliet. She takes the potion and commits suicide, but does not die and pass on. Rea returns to life as a zombie, which is reminiscent to Hellsing when her eyes change from blue to red.

Rea continues to live on, but as a zombie.

She hides out with Furuya, who is happy to have a zombie girlfriend. It should be known that Furuya always had the fantasy of a zombie girlfriend, which makes him a closeted necrophiliac. They develop a relationship, but there are complications like the fact that Rea is a zombie and her body constantly requires preservation.

Rea learns that death doesn’t mean she can escape her father, who learns about the resurrection and vows to take her back.
