PATNA: The Patna’s version of Mumbai’s ‘Marine Drive’, Ganga Path along the Ganga, which is a dream project of chief minister Nitish Kumar, is on course to become a reality in two years. The Bihar government on Monday announced in the state legislative council that the project would be completed by September 2017.
Replying to a question of Baidyanath Prasad (BJP) during Question Hour, road construction department minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said 23 slabs have been completed and the work on embankment is in progress.

CM Kumar had laid the stone of the Rs 3,160-crore project to lay a 21.5-km, four-lane highway along the Ganga from Deedarganj to Digha in Patna on October 11, the birth anniversary of the late Jayaprakash Narayan, in 2013.
Christened Loknayak Ganga Path in honour of JP, the riverfront is being constructed by a Hyderabad-based company. The travel time between Digha and Deedarganj will be reduced from two hours to less than 25 minutes once it becomes operational.
Talking about the delay in the project, the minister admitted there was earlier some technical fault in its structural design. “The design was sent to A K Bhowmik, a core committee member of Indian Road Congress. Bhowmik has approved the project after making certain changes,” the minister informed the House.
Intervening during the minister’s reply, leader of the opposition Sushil K Modi said the work had been started from the Digha side. He suggested the minister to start it from the Deedarganj side simultaneously in view of the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Govind Singh which falls on January 3, 2017. “If the stretch from Gaighat to Deedarganj is complete by that time, it would be easier for lakhs of people to reach the Patna Sahib shrine on the occasion as they could skip the crowded Ashok Rajpath,” Modi said.
The minister assured Modi that experts would be asked to explore this possibility. “We will try our level best in view of the festival of Sikhs,” he said.
Replying to a question of Kedar Nath Pandey (CPI), the minister said the work on four-laning of Hajipur-Chhapra road would be completed by May next year. He said this stretch is being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India and 60% work has been completed. The minister, however, admitted the pace of work on two-laning of Chhapra-Siwan stretch is slow.
