BPO executive Virendra Damania, 28, died on Sunday night when a speeding trailer turned turtle and hit his car on the Western Express Highway near Kandivali. The trailer’s driver has been arrested for causing death due to negligence.

Damania was sitting next to Ramesh Yadav, the driver of his Indica, who survived with a fracture on his hand.

According to the Samta Nagar police, the incident occurred around 11:40 pm on the north-bound stretch of the highway near Bandongri bus stop. The police said that Damania lived in a rented apartment in Kandivali with roommates. Damania is from Gujarat; his family lives in Daman. He worked at a BPO in Goregaon.

The trailer overturned while changing lanes at a high speed. It took over an hour to pull Yadav out with the help of a crane and the fire brigade. Damani was declared dead on arrival by the Shatabdi hospital.

The police have arrested Surendra Burme, 30, the trailer driver, who is from Jammu. Burme fled from the spot along with the cleaner fearing public assault. He surrendered before the police the next day. He will be produced before a magistrates’ court on Tuesday.

“Its not clear if he was drunk at the time of the accident,” a police officer said.
