Tollywood wards off ‘evil eyes’
Saddened and shocked over a series of deaths in the industry, the Telugu film industry is performing 'Amrutha Pasupatha Maha Mruthyunjaya Homam', a spiritual ritual to please Yama, the God of death.

The three-day homam began at Daiva Sannidhanam at Film Nagar under the guidance of Swaroopanandendra of Sri Sarada Peetham, Visakhapatnam. The seer has many followers in the Tollywood. Several senior film personalities, including director K Raghavendra Rao, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, M Murali Mohan, Vijaya Nirmala, megastar Chiranjeevi’s wife Surekha, actress Jayasudha (who is contesting for the Movie Artists Association (MAA) president post in the elections to be held in a few days) and several others participated in the homam.
Tollywood lost many actors, actresses, directors, producers, cameramen and technicians in the last two years. While hero Uday Kiran committed suicide, veterans like Akkineni Nageswara Rao and D Rama Naidu and famous cinematographer A Vincent died of age. Ahuti Prasad and MS Narayana became victims of prolonged ailments. Music director Chakri’s death at a very young age late last year has shocked the industry more. “The industry has lost 15 personalities in the last 15 months. We are performing this yagnam to wean away evils as advised by the seer”, said Movie Artists Association (MAA) honorary president M Murali Mohan. "We are not forcing anyone. We are doing it with a good intention and for a good purpose. It won't cause any loss," he said.
