Two chain-snatchers arrested in Hadapsar

The crime branch of the Pune police on March 15 arrested two criminals, Mohammad Feroz Jaffri Irani (24) of Ambivli in Kalyan and Ali Haider Irani (22) of Surakshanagar in Hadapsar, for allegedly snatching the gold chain of a senior sales officer in Sopanagar in Vadgaonsheri on January 6.

PUNE: The crime branch of the Pune police on March 15 arrested two criminals, Mohammad Feroz Jaffri Irani (24) of Ambivli in Kalyan and Ali Haider Irani (22) of Surakshanagar in Hadapsar, for allegedly snatching the gold chain of a senior sales officer in Sopanagar in Vadgaonsheri on January 6.
They were riding a motorcycle when they snatched Baby alias Nanda Dattatraya Katore’s (54) chain when she was going home from work at 5.30pm.
Katore, who works in a private firm at Kesnand near Wagholi, registered a complaint under section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code with the Chandanagar police station. Police naik Bharat Ransingh of the crime branch received a tip-off that some chain snatchers had visited Irani vasti in Shivajinagar.
A police team led by assistant inspector Mahadeo Waghmode under the guidance of senior inspector Sunil Yadav of crime branch (unit five) conducted searches in the slum and took Feroz and Ali into custody on suspicion. Both allegedly admitted to robbing Katore. Waghmode recovered the chain worth Rs 1.12 lakh from them. Waghmode said Feroz is a criminal on the records of Pune, Thane and Nashik police while Ali has a robbery case registered against him with the Hadapsar police station. The Pune cantonment court on Monday sent both to magisterial custody. They were taken to Yerawada Central Prison.
