We live in times where more often than not, our personal interests come even before those of our family, let alone the country the community or the poor. Which is why Omkar Nath Sharma's story is truly truly special.

78-year-old Omkar Nath Sharma is a retired blood bank technician with one simple agenda - going home to home and collecting medicines so he can make a medicine bank for the poor. Something that subsequent governments both in the state and the country have failed miserably at.

It all started 7-years-ago when an under construction metro pillar collapsed in New Delhi's Lakshmi Nagar area killing several labourers. This was something that really moved Omkar Nath and pushed him to start his drive.

He leaves home every morning at 7.30 am and does the round of houses to collect medicines. He then sifts through the medicines to seed out the expired ones and then categorises and stores them in his one-room apartment.

Things have gotten better though, he now no longer works alone, there are volunteers who join him from time to time. As word got out, he's even started receiving medicine donations from other countries. What's next? For now, just making a stronger bank and making a bank of more expensive medicines for the Indian poor.
