6PM launches first Javali pilot project for the NHS

2015, March 21

On the 23rd of March, 6PM will embark on the first Javali pilot in the UK for the NHS. Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will be the first to use Javali to analyse and audit four weeks' worth of clinical coding data.

The pilot is scheduled to be completed over the course of one week and will culminate in the release of results detailing recommended corrections to the coding of the medical records from the identified miscoded or under coded encounters. Besides aiding in improving the quality of the clinical coding it will also allow the trust to increase the accuracy of the revenue recovered through the PbR programme.

Javali is a technology that significantly increases medical record quality and improves the mortality index (SHMI) through improved complication and comorbidity coding. Javali automatically scans and aggregates all data associated with an individual inpatient encounter and, via text based searches, assists coders in identifying missed and under-coded CCs and MCCs. As a result of this there will also be a significant increase in the accuracy of inpatient revenue recovery.

Inaccuracy in revenue recovery is a big headache for hospital administrators and Trusts. According to the UK Audit Commission's report 'Right Data, Right Payment' nationally in the UK coding errors continue to result in both under and over-payments on balances.
