VELLORE: Tension prevailed at Katpadi in Tamil Nadu after the son of a panchayat president died in a road accident involving a bike and the car of the Vellore district collector on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as K Raj Kumar, 23, son of Karnapattu panchayat president Kasi.
Udhya Suriyan, 25, a pillion rider on the bike, sustained severe injuries.
Tension prevailed in the area as soon as news spread that district collector R Nanthagopal's car fatally knocked down the son of the panchayat president and seriously injured another youth.

DMK deputy general secretary Duraimurugan led a road blockade demanding the immediate arrest of the collector's car driver.
They blocked Chittoor-Vellore highway near the Katpadi railway station on Monday morning. Traffic movement was completely disrupted and vehicles queued up on either side of the road.
People faced a huge hardship due to the protest. The protesters blocked the road near the railway station and a vast majority of the people banking on trains to reach their destinations could neither get out of the railway station nor reach the station to board trains.
The protesters charged that police attempted to bury the accident involving the collector's car. They said Nanthagopal was in the car when the vehicle hit the motorbike and his driver Mohan, an ex-serviceman, was at the wheels.
Initial inquiries revealed that the youth and his friend entered the main road from an interior road and hit the collector's car.
