RAJKOT: Police have found charred remains of a 19-year-old girl, who had gone missing on January 24, and arrested one person for the crime.
The girl Sangeeta Parmar, a resident of Sarvoday Society, had gone missing from her house. After all efforts to trace her turned futile, her father Ramesh Parmar lodged a complaint with the Thorala police station.
Police arrested her boyfriend Sunil Sagathiya, who was living in the same locality as the girl's. After her father lodged a complaint, police started questioning many people and got to know that Sagathiya and Parmar had an affair.
Sagathiya was also called for questioning but he denied knowing Sangeeta's whereabouts. However, police strongly suspected his involvement and started analyzing the call details of both.
"The call details revealed that both were near Amreli on January 24. On the basis of this, we again grilled Sagathiya and he confessed to the crime," said Thorala police officials.
Police said that Sagathiya took her to Bambhania village in Vadia taluka of Amreli district on his bike on January 24 for a ride. It was here that Parmar persuaded him to marry her. However, Sagathiya was opposed to the marriage and he allegedly strangulated her with dupatta on the spot. After killing her, he sprinkled petrol from his bike and burnt her body so that she could not be identified.
After the revelation, Thorala police rushed to the Amreli village to collect more evidence.
"We will get forensic examination of the body remains done. Sagathiya has been booked for murder," said a police official.
