Fence open spaces, industry urges MIDC
NASHIK: The industry bodies have urged the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to fence the open spaces at Satpur and Ambad industrial estates to avoid encroachments.
The industries have also agreed to plant trees on the open spaces across the Satpur and Ambad MIDC areas, but only after the corporation fences the open spaces by the MIDC. Both the MIDC areas are located in the limits of the Nashik Municipal Corporation.

The issue of fencing of open spaces had come up during the recent meeting of the Zilla Udyog Mitra (ZUM).
The industrial bodies like the Nashik Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA), the Ambad Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (AIMA) and other industrial bodies had sought the MIDC to fence the open spaces in its jurisdiction to avoid encroachments.
Executive engineer (Nashik region) of MIDC P R Bandopiya said, “Earlier, we had sent a proposal to fence open spaces in Satpur and Ambad industrial estates to our head office in Mumbai around a year back, but it was rejected. We have again sent a fresh proposal in this connection to the head office for approval. The work is estimated to cost around Rs 60 lakh.”
District collector Deependra Singh Kushwah said, “It becomes difficult to remove the encroachments once they come up on the open spaces. Until the proposal of fencing the open spaces in industrial estates is approved by the head office of MIDC, the industries should take initiative to plant trees under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).”

When contacted, NIMA president Ravi Verma said, “We are ready to plant saplings on the open spaces, but the MIDC should fence them first. We have been demanding the MIDC to fence open spaces for the past two-three years, but it is yet to undertake the works.”
As per the policy, the MIDC reserves 10% of the total plots in the industrial estates, out of which, around 5% are reserved to provide basic amenities to the industries and the rest of the 5% for tree plantation. The total areas of both Satpur and Ambad MIDCs are close to 1,100 hectares, out of which, around 5% or 55 hectares are open spaces. The total open plots are close to 30 in both the MIDCs. As these open plots have no fencing and may lead to encroachments, the industries have sought the MIDC to fence them.
