Chennithala in Delhi, meets Sonia

: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala is in Delhi on a lobbying mission with the party high command seeking a fair deal for his supporters in a changing political situation consequent to the death of Speaker G. Karthikeyan. Mr. Chennithala called on party president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and briefed her about the developments in the State, including the happenings in the Assembly.

He reportedly staked a claim for the Deputy Speaker’s post for a nominee from his faction. The Aruvikkara by-election did not come up for detailed discussions, sources said. Mr. Chennithala also met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and submitted a memorandum seeking more assistance for police and jail modernisation.
