With the arrest of eight men, the Delhi Police claimed to have busted a syndicate of serial burglars active across the NCR and wanted in 21 criminal cases solely in the Capital.

On March 11, the police said, several complaints related to burglaries at a commercial complex in Munirka were received at the local police station, which led to the registration of four separate criminal cases.

“ The evidences collected from the spot - were analysed, but did not lead to the identification of criminals without any previous records,” said a police officer. “Another incident of burglary was reported in Munirka, which saw burglars stealing three laptops on the intervening night of March 13 and 14. Finally, personnel on night patrol noticed the suspicious movement of a person in Munirka,” the officer said.

He was identified as Mehatab, who later revealed that he was a member of a gang that had committed burglaries in various parts of Delhi and admitted his involvement in 21 such incidents, including those at the Munirka Market. Raids were conducted in Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh, and seven more members of his gang were arrested.
