Five-day theatre festival from today

Ranga Parisara, a forum for the promotion of theatre, will organise a five-day mythological theatre festival at Karnatak Vidyavardhak Sangha (KVS) auditorium here from Monday.

Event organiser Jeevan Langoti told presspersons here on Sunday that the festival would feature five Kannada plays based on mythological and historical themes. It has been dedicated to musical maestro Basavaraj Mansur.

The plays to be staged are ‘Rakta Ratri’ written by Kundagal Hanumantaraya (Monday), ‘Sri Krishnadevaraya’ by K. Jagadish (Tuesday), ‘Dyuta Bharata’ by H.S. Umesh (Wednesday), ‘Ashwaparva’ by Ramanath (Thursday) and ‘Srikrishna Garudi’ by Puttaraj Gawai (Friday).

Besides, talks on different subject too would be held. Shashidhar Narendra (Basavaraj Mansur and music), Suresh Kulkarni (Basavaraj Mansur and cinema) and A. L. Naganur (Basavaraj Mansur and theatre) would deliver talks from Tuesday.

On the occasion of the World Theatre Day on Friday, veteran theatre artist R.T. Rama would be honoured with this year’s Rangasiri award instituted by Ranga Parisara. She had been chosen for the award in consideration of her life contribution for theatre, Mr. Langoti said.
