The Congress, which has lost its glory post-bifurcation, is on a mission to regain strength in Srikakulam district through a series of agitations over peoples’ issues. The party managed to get the required momentum through a five-day relay hunger strike by activists seeking special status for Andhra Pradesh as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Former Union Minister Killi Kruparani, PCC general secretary Killi Rammohana Rao and Srikakulam District Congress Committee president Dola Jagan who met at Indira Vignan Bhavan on Sunday decided to visit all mandals to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. They also expressed satisfaction over the response of the public as well as cadre to protest programmes launched by the party.
“The BJP seems to have denied special package to the State, as it wanted to curtail the growth of the TDP. But, the Congress is not concerned even if the ruling party takes credit for special package if it is granted to the State. Our aim is to get maximum funds for the State,” Ms. Kruparani said. Meanwhile, Mr. Rammohana Rao said people were fed up with the government’s selective approach while extending welfare schemes to rural areas.
“TDP leaders have been given powers to choose beneficiaries in rural areas. It has led to partiality and denial of schemes to several people,” he added. The leaders also vowed to strengthen the party in identified villages by encouraging new leadership.
