Two reporters arrested for ‘extortion’

The shop owner allegedly got scared and agreed to pay them.

The MHB Police in Borivali (West) have arrested two reporters from a publication named ‘Ruby Times’ for allegedly trying to extort Rs 5,000 from a shop owner threatening him to publish a report on his alleged illegal business.

The reporters told the shop owner that they had got written proof and documents through the RTI Act that his business and his shop were illegal and threatened to publish an article about it.

The shop owner allegedly got scared and agreed to pay them. The shop owner then approached the MHB Police and registered a complaint.

On Sunday when the two reached the shop to take the cash, the police officers arrested them, identified as Amitkumar Mishra (35) and Santosh Vishwakarma (22)on the charge of extortion. ENS
