‘Goal is to gain knowledge, not marks’

In earlier years everybody was rated on marking. So there was a clear understanding of superior and inferior levels in the class. So lots of study was done around this and from western we adopted the grading system.
I do agree with new grading system. Because if we apply marking system at earlier school stage, may develop inferior qualities in themselves from their childhood. So grade to the superior that you are not alone, there are many people securing superior grades like you. But I think we should follow grading system till 7th standard and simultaneously train the students about marking system which will increase and automatically superior- inferior wall may drastically come down. So from 8th to 10th they will be matured enough and get clear micro-idea of where they are lagging, it means scope of improvement is there.

Both the marking system and grading system have their pros and cons, whereas marks help students identify their exact scores, grades place students in predefined categories such as A and B. Under the marking system, even if two students are of similar caliber one can ace out the other by a fraction of a point. This level of assessment encourages competitiveness. To score that one extra mark, students devote more time to study and pay attention to detail. The positive side effect of this is that the students acquire knowledge. However, the marking system can also lead to the perception that high marks, rather than real knowledge, are important. If students learn to differentiate between the two, give importance to learning and knowledge acquisition and consider marks just a means to gauge their knowledge, the marking system can work well for them. In grading system, students feel less stress.

In today’s society there is much need for education. If you want to succeed in the future, chances are you need to have a good education. It is said that in order to get a high class job, one where you get paid good money and one that you will be able to live on for the rest of your life you need a high education, such as University or College. Countries throughout the world use different methods of giving education, paying for it, and even which gender gets it.Throughout North America there is a widely accepted educational system. It is not forced upon the students, students are allowed to choose their own topics of study. This cannot be said for some other countries throughout the world. The government governs their educational system. All courses are taught with the viewpoints of the government. Also these countries imply a great deal of pressure on their students to achieve very high grades. This pressure can be too much for some students, causing suicide in some places.

I think this is a good step to change the country the very old education system of our country. We have progressed and development in many fields but the educational system is same. But the question arises why in only CBSE system however this is going to relax most of the students and parents as well. The grading system is much better than marking system. There should be one syllabus system in India. This system must be applied to all board exams. There should be only one education system in all over the India If think that introduction of the grading system is not a good step from the point of view of those students who work hard and study day and night. If the system is implemented then it should be for 10th and 12th standard students because after 10th the students have to choose a field on which their carrier depends as 12th standard act as the base for the students and thus at this point a bright and talented student may demoralized.

Grading in education is the process of applying standardized measurements of varying levels of achievement in a course. In some countries: all grades from all current classes are averaged to create a grade point average for the making period. The GPA is calculated by taking the number of grade points a student earned in a given period of time of middle school through high school. The GPA can be used by potential employers or educational institutions to assess and compare applicants.

The Need for Federal Government Involvement in Education ReformFor centuries, generations of families have congregated in the same community orin the same general region of the country. Children grew up expecting to earn aliving much like their fathers and mothers or other adults in their community. These advanced skills were taught to the up-and-coming generation so they could become a vital part of their community. Thelast several decades has greatly expanded the bounds of the “community” toalmost anywhere in the country or anywhere in the world for that matter.Advances in transportation and communication has made the world a much smallerplace then the world we knew as children. The skills our children need torealize parents’ perpetual dream of “their children having a better life” are nolonger limited to those seen in the local area. It is becoming more and moreapparent that the education system of yesterday cannot adequately preparestudents for life and work in the 21st Century.

Grading in education is the process of applying standardized measurement of varying level of achievement in a course. Academic grading in India is base on a percentage system. Generally at the school level percentages of 80-90 are considered as excellent while above 90% is exceptional. At the university level however percentage of marks obtained at one university with that at another is difficult. Indeed, the differential between universities in terms of marking scale can be as 20% with some requiring at 85% plus for the award of
distinction, an approximate equivalent of the Latin honor sum mecum — laude, while yet others
would award.

As we know this is a generation in which, everywhere is competition even in studies. So we go to school to do studies and pass with more marks. In many schools there is a system of giving grades. I think grade system doesn’t satisfy the students those who work hard. For example: 1st student is very intelligent, 2nd student is not so intelligent as compare to 1st student. 1st student got A1 grade. Now you will think that how 2nd child got A1. Because this is grade system that after 90% to 100% is A1. 1st child has scored 98 marks and 2nd 91. But both will get same grade A1. In mark system 1st child will have 98 marks and 2nd child 91 marks. So according to my views marking system is better than grading system.

An ideal system of education requires distinct characteristics. Our education system today is not quite perfect. All education institutions share a common goal. The goal is for all the students to gain knowledge and not just marks.The majority of people believe this is obtaining education. There is more to the concept that students are depositories and the teachers are the depositor. The success of the students are directly connected to the environment he is surrounded. A perfect education system has to start with a comfortable environment. The teacher also has to be knowledgeable and not believe in the myth that their own existence through their students ignorance absolute.

Learning is a lifelong natural activity. Environment plays a vital role in our education. Two stages in childhood can be distinguished: the first, taking place within the family or nursery school; the second, in elementary school, when the child, beginning to leave the family circle, is initiated into a larger environment. The elementary student will develop his own view of education during these years and these views will continue to influence his decisions throughout his lifetime. Learning opportunities must be interesting, meaningful, and purposeful for learners. Curriculum should include textbooks that cover objectives to be learned along with a teacher whose knowledge goes beyond the textbook.
