Meanwhile, locals of the area, in a meeting, decided to take the task of stepping up security in the area in their own hands. “We have decided that we will not wait for the panchayat to replace out-of-order streetlights. We will put up lights wherever required so that dark corners are also lighted up,” said Kakali Biswas, a local resident. She said the houses in the area have low boundary walls and the gates,too, are sometimes vulnerable. “We have decided to do it ourselves and not wait for authorities as it is a question of our own security,” she said.

The locals also decided to increase the number of private security guards in the area. “We already have four security guards here. We might increase the number of guards as soon as this incident settles down a bit,” said a 50-year-old resident of the area.
