Local jirga declares girl Kari in Ghotki

Despite the orders of SHC, Wani and Kari practices are still underway in the province.

GHOTKI (Dunya News) – A local tribal jirga in Dharki area of Ghotki declared a girl Kari for marrying of her own free will, Dunya News reported on Sunday.

According to details, the jirga also imposed a fine of Rs 1.2 million on the couple along with handing over a girl as Wani

The girl identified as Nagina, student of 11th grade, married a man named Intazar five months ago.

The so called jirga declared the couple Kari on their act and stated that the couple was liable to be killed if they disobey orders.

Despite the orders of Sindh High Court (SHC), Wani and Kari practices are still underway in the province.

Wani is a cultural custom found in some tribal areas of Pakistan wherein young girls are forcibly married as part of punishment for a crime committed by her male relatives.
