Watchdog group to discuss SouthField development

The local watchdog group known as the Advocates for Rockland, Abington, Weymouth, and Hingham is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss the status of the SouthField development.

Dominic Galluzzo, a member of the board of directors for the group, said members of the public — especially residents of the four towns around the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station — are encouraged to attend.

“This is one opportunity that, if you have any kind of curiosity as to what’s going on, neighbor to neighbor, people will be more than happy to share information with you,” he said.

Galluzzo said the discussion will focus on the Navy’s progress cleaning up contamination at the former base, the status of construction of new homes, and the role that the SouthField Redevelopment Authority plays in the development project.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Tufts Library at 46 Broad St. in Weymouth.
