Saad Rafiq summoned in poll rigging case

LAHORE - An Election Tribunal summoned Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq on Saturday in the alleged matter of poll rigging in NA-125, the constituency from where he was elected as member of the national assembly.
The tribunal placed this order on application moved by Hamid Khan of PTI seeking verification and inspection of the record of the constituency concerned. The tribunal also sought record of two polling stations 120 and 151 on next date of hearing.
Earlier, the tribunal judge asked both the candidates to inform the court about 10 polling stations of their own choices and later the tribunal selected 10 polling stations by its own and held inspection of eight out of then selected polling stations.
Hamid Khan had challenged the victory of PML-N’s Saad Rafiq alleging that he had rigged the election and a large number of bogus votes were cast in his favour. He requested the tribunal to declare the election null and void and to announce re-election in the alleged constituency.
The tribunal will resume hearing on March 28.
