50 % to govt. quota

In a statement, BJP General Secretary V. Saminathan pointed out that several political parties and students and parents’ welfare federation already have been demanding that all private medical colleges should allocate 50 per cent of MBBS seats to government quota.

However, only 35 per cent seats were allocated to government quota while 15 per cent of seats- 200 seats are being sold.

Hence, the students of Puducherry have to study in other states by spending crores of rupees.

Alleging that the private medical colleges in the Union Territory have been selling 100 post- graduate medical seats to the tune of Rs.200 crore at their whims and fancies, Mr.Saminathan said Chief Minister N.Rangasamy should ensure that allocation of 100 seats to be filled through CENTAC from the next academic year.

Accusing private medical colleges of selling Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quota seats to others, he said private colleges should publish the list of students who were admitted under NRI quota.

Stating that the BJP would not accept the treacherous of act of colleges after enjoying land, water and electricity in the Union Territory, Mr.Saminathan also said,

“If the trend continues, the BJP unit will soon take up the issue with the Union Government.”
