Plea for recognition of transgenders as third sex

P. Vijayakumar, president of Hizras Welfare Association, urged the government to recognise transgenders as third sex in all official records.

In a statement, he said transgenders were neither males not females but wanted to be recognized by their own sex. He said the government conceded their request and but put them under others category. He called for a comprehensive law that dealt with the transgender community. He said any person should be recognized as transgender only after medical certification as many of the fake persons grabbling the benefits under the garb.
