A cleaning drive taken up by the Forest Department as part of observing International Day of Forests gave a fresh look to the Kozhikode Beach on Saturday.

Nearly 150 Forest Department officials, along with the members of the regional Vana Samrakshana Samithis (VSS) and city Corporation workers, took part in the two-hour cleaning drive.

‘Start from home’

Divisional forest officer Amandeep Kaur, City Police Commissioner P.A. Valsan, and Range officers Sasi Kumar Rayaroth and K. Anil Kumar were part of the team. Opening the programme, Ms. Kaur said protection of nature and environment should begin from one’s own humble surroundings.

Officials from Thamarassery, Kuttiyadi, and Peruvannamoozhi range offices were also present. Later, the Corporation workers removed the segregated trash to the dumping yard. Representatives from various other government departments supported the drive.
