NEW DELHI: After accusing Christians of spreading false propaganda about church attacks and demanding a Hanuman Temple in Vatican in exchange of allowing a church to be built in Hisar, VHP has hit out at beef eaters. VHP International working president Praveen Togadia on Saturday warned that beef eaters would have to face the reaction of “Indian culture”.
In response to the controversy stirred by the ban on beef by certain states, Togadia said, “In any country it is necessary to respect the culture of that nation.
If someone wants to insult the culture of our nation, there will be reaction.” When asked who would react, he said, “Indian culture will react.”
Togadia, whose relationship with PM Narendra Modi is known to be strained, criticized the alliance between BJP and PDP in Jammu and Kashmir. Expressing concern at the frequent terror attacks in the state, Togadia said, “Which party should have an alliance with which party is their prerogative. But parties must think of national interest and national security before entering into an alliance. In Kashmir, Masarat Alam has been released. CM has compromised national security. The nation is watching.”
Togadia, however, refused to comment on the Modi government saying he had been “too busy” with his work to assess the performance of the BJP government at the Centre.
The firebrand Hindutva leader also lashed out at such political parties which held VHP responsible for attack on churches and gangrape of a nun in Nadia, West Bengal. “There are attacks on churches happening in Syria and Pakistan as well. Is VHP responsible there as well? If you have evidence (of our involvement), prosecute us.”
The VHP president also announced a nationwide programme to end “untouchability” in the society, saying the Hindutva body would work on several fronts to realize an “India without untouchability”.
“There is no religious sanction for untouchability in Hinduism. Different things are written in different books but Vedas are the final authority on the religion and nowhere do they support untouchability. All Hindus are part of the same family. We will work to abolish this practice,” he said.
