Crewe Alexandra slipped back into the League Two relegation places after Oldham Athletic stole all three points.
Rhys Turner's mazy unopposed run was denied by a great save from Crewe's former Oldham goalkeeper Paul Rachubka.
Jamie Ness and James Jones were both inches away from giving the hosts the lead but they were denied by keeper Joel Coleman.
But Crewe were undone when Conor Wilkinson drove low into the corner after linking with Danny Philliskirk.
Oldham Athletic caretaker manager Dean Holden told BBC Radio Manchester:
"The three points is massive for us. We've struggled a bit in the last couple of games to get results, so it's a fantastic three points.
"But more than that, it's a performance you want to be associated with, it had a bit of everything.
"There's been a lot of work going on behind the scenes and when you don't get the results people ask questions.
"But it's nice for it all to be coming together."
