Man murdered for voting against fathers of accused in panchayat elections

A 60-year-old man, who was found murdered on his farm, was an act of three spiteful youths. Father of two accused contested panchayat election in Nazeerabad area on city outskirts and the three were angry with the elderly man, Mangilal Gurjar for voting against them, police said.

BHOPAL: A 60-year-old man, who was found murdered on his farm, was an act of three spiteful youths. Father of two accused contested panchayat election in Nazeerabad area on city outskirts and the three were angry with the elderly man, Mangilal Gurjar for voting against them, police said. The man was murdered on March 18 and cops unraveled their role on Friday.
It is third murder in post-poll violence in less than a week.
Earlier, on March 14, two people were murdered and 15 others sustained injuries in another incident of violence in the area.
The elderly man, Mangilal Gurjar, was a resident of village Bhamora. The blood-splattered body was found in his farm where he slept to take care of harvested crop.
Officials said the accused have been identified as Dayal Singh, 35, Kamlesh, 30 and Lakhpat Singh, 24. Dayal Singh and Kamlesh told police their fathers contested for posts of sarpanch and panch in the panchayat elections, but lost due to Gurjar and his family noting voting in their favour. The third accused, Lakhpat is a cousin of Dayal.
They wanted to settle scores and on the day of incident when they came to know that Gurjar is alone in his farm they murdered him using stick and axe. The trio were missing after incident, but were nabbed from near 11-Mile, officials added.
