Baselworld 2015: Bremont Jaguar MKI and Jaguar MKII (Updated with Live Photos)

At Baselworld 2015, Bremont unveils two new watches designed in partnership with Jaguar. Calling upon the watch and car brands’ shared British heritage, the new Bremont Jaguar MKI and Jaguar MKII have features reminiscent of the classic Jaguar E-Type from the 1960s.

The MKI and MKII are extensions from a six-piece limited edition that Bremont made last summer. Jaguar produced six handmade “continuation” E-Types, built to the specifications of the Lightweight E-Type of 1964. Bremont’s special pieces were made as a complement to those cars. The new watches will not be produced in a limited edition and are intended to be more affordable: whereas the limited-edition Lightweight watch was made of white gold and aluminum, the MKI and MKII are cased in stainless steel.

The major Jaguar features are visible on the dials of the MKI (small seconds) and the MKII (chronograph). Both watches were designed in conjunction with Jaguar to echo the car’s dashboard. The railroad minutes track on each watch covers only three quarters of the perimeter so as to better resemble the dashboard displays of the E-Type. The hands are in steel, but the minutes hand is black at its base, just like the counters on the dash. A date window is found at 6 o’clock on both models. A red sector (beneath 3 o’clock on the MKI and in the running seconds subdial on the MKII) represents the “red zone” on the E-Type’s tachymeter.

The MKI uses a proprietary Bremont BWC/01-10, an automatic, 4-Hz caliber with a 50-hour power reserve. The MKII uses the BE-50AE, also automatic, which beats at 4 Hz and has a 42-hour power reserve. Both watches are COSC-certified chronometers, like all Bremont watches.

The case is 43 mm in diameter and 16 mm thick. It’s entirely stainless steel, and the middle section is DLC-treated. The caseback, also in steel has a sapphire window, through which you can see the rotor, modeled after the E-Type’s steering wheel.

The watches come on perforated racing straps in blue calfskin. Each watch is water resistant to 100 meters. The MKI is priced at $10,950, while the MKII costs $6,550.
