Court dismisses case

March 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Thrissur:

The Thrissur vigilance court has dismissed a case against former Chief Secretary Bharat Bhushan’s wife, Ranjana, and the District Collector on a complaint of irregularity in calculating fair value of a land that belonged to Ms. Ranjana.

The complaint filed by district panchayat member Vidhya Sangeeth was dismissed after preliminary investigation.

Ms. Sangeeth alleged that reduction of 50 per cent was allowed in the fair value of land at Patturikkal, when it was sold to a construction company. The petitioner alleged that the sale of land at a manipulated fair value had caused heavy loss to the exchequer in terms of stamp duty.

The complainant alleged that Mr. Bhushan’s official position was misused for reducing the fair value by influencing the Collector.

The court ordered preliminary investigation by the Thrissur Vigilance Dy.SP on July 9, 2014, against District Collector M.S. Jaya, ADM Selvaraj, village officer Raghunandanan, and Ms. Ranjana.

Vigilance Judge K. Haripal dismissed the case citing no basis in the complaint.
