A market in a typical rural setting comes alive through a pencil sketch; a woman vendor carrying a basket brings out fine elements of mat-cut technique; the eyes of an attractive woman in ‘Purple Pining’ frame leave an everlasting impression on the viewers; the rustic charm of rural life and many more form a part of the on-going group art show ‘Chitra Saakar’.
Organised by Surya Academy of Arts, the painting, sculpture, and print-making art exhibition that began at Visakha Museum on Friday brought out a variety of themes in diverse formats. In all, 34 artists, both students of Fine Arts and freelancers, participated.
With assorted mediums and techniques used, the avenue provided an opportunity for aspiring artists to express their creativity and exchange views.
“For instance, I would like to express the joy I have experienced through my painting ‘My Life’. Ever since my childhood, I have always been fond of painting. My next move is to bring out a series of sketches based on this concept,” says P. Nageswar Rao, an artist.
Explaining her theme ‘Interlinked’, Preeti Parmar says, “There is a definite purpose that drives us to get connected to different people in life. Using acrylic as the medium, I wanted to bring out this theme through my artwork.”
According to founder-director of the academy Shankar Neelu Bhagavathula, the objective was to identify the aspirations of the artists and help them exhibit their creative expertise.
The exhibition, inaugurated by former Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, Ravi Shankar Patnaik of Department of Fine Arts, Andhra University, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Retired) T.S.R. Prasad, is on till Sunday from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
