‘Environmental clearance a must’

Even though the government had permitted extraction of sand from patta land in Nanjangud, senior geologist of Department of Mines and Geology Lingaraju said the actual mining activity can take place only after obtaining an environmental clearance from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority.

Mr. Lingaraju said the samples of sand from patta land, were subjected to laboratory tests and were found suitable for construction. Meanwhile, the Mysuru district Maralu Horatagara Samithi president Shabbir Mustafa welcomed the State government’s decision to accord permission to extract sand from patta land.
