Birth anniversary of saint celebrated

The birth anniversary of saint Siva Prabhakara Sidha Yogi was celebrated with spiritual fervour at his tomb at Pulipparamala, near Omalloor, on Friday.

The celebrations began with the ceremonial kodiyettu on Wednesday.

A large number of disciples of the Yogi from different parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala reached the tomb (samadhi) atop the Pulipparamala hillock to participate in the birth anniversary celebrations on Friday.

25 Russian disciples

A group of 25 Russian disciples of the saint, led by Swami Vishnudevananda Giri, abbot of the Divya Loka Ashram in the riverside region of Nizhny Novgorod, near Moscow, also took part in the celebrations.

Karpoora Sundara Pandyan, IAS, from Chennai, and Nadakkuzhiyil Janardhanan Nair, both ardent disciples of the saint, led the celebrations.

The saint’s disciples from Madurai, Sankarankovil, Sivaganga, and Chennai celebrated the birth anniversary in typical Tamil style with Manchalaattom and Vilakkupuja.

Ceremonial procession

The celebrations came to a close with a ceremonial procession, escorting a decorated palanquin carrying the saint’s idol, accompanied by traditional percussion and women carrying bright-lit oil lamps.

A large number of people partook of the Annadanam.
